Can I use a treatment no 2X4 (done for the posts) for a fence?
Hello, I'm in Beaverton, Oregon. I'm looking for fence construction because it is much cheaper than hiring someone. Today I stopped by Home Depot and they have the "wood white spot "for the board (6 ft) for $ 1.19. In addition, the doug fir 2X4 untreated (8 ft) is much cheaper - $ 2.46 than retreads. Can I use the fence? If I do, for how long it will look "ok" ... Thank you
Its really all goes down to help if your for the 2x4 post into the ground. If you had to use untreated wood for the boards of the fence, until you seal them they will last a good enough just as long as you Paint, stain, seal them once a year, never later than once every 2 years. If they will be in contact with the ground they will need to be treated or they attribute to rot faster than those treated. I would suggest they have a vinyl fence, but it is more expensive than other two, but he never needs any maintenance to it. Its really your call. If you can and as paint or stain every year, you can take the cheapest route, if you decide to go with pressure treated wood, it takes at least a year before starting to leak too. otherwise it will rot from within, because the moisture inside it takes to heal from the first year. hope this helps.
