What is a good brand of sticks for a beginner?
I am 14 and I just had my first drum lesson yesterday. The place I'll also have a music store connected to it and I saw some Zildjian sticks with white tips. They were 5.99 $ Is this a good price? I do not have a battery yet but I thought I would get some sticks to work on holding my chopsticks properly.
In my opinion PROMARK WILL ALWAYS BE THE BEST. You will find many differing opinions on this issue, I tell you. But I have been around for a long time, and I know my sticks. Let's say you play a 7, take about 5 pairs 7a and go to a corner of the music store where no one is taking a practice pad wth you. Do not drive stick on the glass display, it is not even. the roll on the ground only if it is an old wooden floor, then you're stuck with glass on the screen. Only sticks roll on a surface that is completely flat, like a tiled floor (you know I speak TILES, like a high school degree or higher), basically a completely flat floor. Take all the above. Watch them all. Look at the difference color, look at the difference in texture. Feel the weight, the weight is the most important (two sticks need to weigh exactly the same thing), but the reason you are the stock is to choose the straightest CANNES, it is also one of the most important things. Then roll on the floor. You will be able to tell them immediately that are BAD and should be "thrown". Package them up immediately in the original sleeves stick once you get 4, 5 or 6 units right, keep playing until you get just two that weigh the same. It's your pair. Put them in a sleeve and set it aside, may tear the cardboard sleeve just a little (or mark it with a pen you have in your pocket if you do not mix this pair with another "bad" pair) in order not to confuse them while you are packing up the rest of the "losers", got it? Now go buy your winning pair. Then maybe you want to buy a pair of 5a at the same shop. Use the same procedure, but only do this once a month per store, or you're going to wind up buying sticks bent thereafter. You can always go to another store to empty their sticks, you know? Now you see how it works, my man. Good luck there, it's very competitive world and you will not know if you are professional equipment for about 8 to 10 years. You feel in your heart before you can put the sticks for the drums in the right way though. Once you feel in your heart, only a matter of time until the stick right where they are supposed to. John in Rock Island, Illinois goto youtube and watch some Carter Beauford of videos (under the table and set of drums). This gives you an idea of what it's like to really get an idea of the battery. Drummers like Beauford did not even think about what they have done because it is automatic. You should have started earlier, you're starting a little late but that's ok, no worries, I have not played for 5 years, and I played every day for 15 years before, so that puts me in a deficit 5 years, but I'll come back, I know I will because it's in my heart. This is where everything comes from. We used to have this kid high school and he drummed like a robot, without feeling, without groove, and did not, MAN. It just did not. You must be able to move with the music, but do not expect t overnight, just take it slow, very slow, learn the basics, and dreams.
