What's the correct way to fill out a post card?
I wrote "to" and the address on the right side under the stamp and "from" below that and my address. On the left side I put the message. The addresses were correct but all my postcards were returned to me. Someone in the post office had circled the word "to" in red ink, so it's not like they couldn't find it. What's up with that?
The majority of postcards are sorted by optical readers.
Those readers search for the address where it should be located (on the lower right side of the card or letter).
Because you incorrectly place your address as the lower most address on the right hand side of the card it read that address as the delivery address.
Someone at the post office attempted to correct the situation.
The problem is that when your postacrds went thru the optical reader it sprayed a barcode on the front and back of the postcard. Once the barcodes are in place the sorting equipment will always search for the barcode and not any info that is written on the card. It will always read the barcode.
Next time that you send postcards make certain that the delivery address is on the bottom half of the right side of the card. And also that your return address is on the upper left side of the card.
Also, the readers will initially search for the easiest address to read. If your return address is type written and the delivery address is sloppily penned, it may read the neater address.
