How does time pass by when your in space?
They say that when your in space time doesn't pass by; meanwhile time is passing by on earth. For example I've heard if your brother is 7 years old, and you are 10, If you go to space and stay there for 3 earth years, when you come back to earth your brother has the same age as you, notwithstanding you only spent a little time in space and you didn't feel that much period.
Do you think that this is true?
No, your thinking of the wrong thing. Time passes by normally when your in space.
What your thinking of is the speed of light.
Time stops when you reach the speed of light, it's called time dilation. And yes, if you travel at the speed of light time stops for you, so you don't age, but your friends back home will have aged, so it's kind of like a way to go to the future.
Say you have a brother that is 10 years old. If you travel at a star 20 light years away at the speed of light, time will stop for you, but for your brother back at home, time will pass regularly and to him, it will take you 40 years to get back, 20 to get to the star and 20 to get back home. So when you get back home, your brother will be 40 years older, or 50 years old, but you would be the same age as you were before you left.
And once you exceed the speed of light, you will actually go back in time to the past. But nothing is faster than light, so that hasn't happened yet.
