Are car dealers required to have a good inspection sticker on a vehicle before they can sell it?
I live in West Virginia and am going to buy a used vehicle from a local car lot and it has a dead inspection sticker. I asked the owner about getting a new sticker and he wasn't getting one put on it. I was under the understanding that car lots had to have good inspection stickers on vehicles before they could sell them. Anyone know?
No, they don't.
The only thing they cannot do is lie to you about the inspection. For example, they can't tell you it has a good inspection when it doesn't.
Other than that, they can take a trade-in and put a for sale sign on it as soon as they are the title owners. They don't even have to wash it if they don't want to.
There are plenty of cars out there for sale. No sense wasting your time on one that has not passed inspection.
