Lion Judah
The lion of Judah and how this event is depicted by Christianity, particularly Catholics.?
From my understanding the lion of Judah symbolizes Jesus in revelation 5-5. I know this is probably depicted differently between different faiths, but I'm catholic, and am wondering if any other Catholics see this symbolism in the same fashion. And if you could explain to me why a lion was chosen.
Lion of Judah and Judaism
The lion of Judah on the coat of arms of JerusalemWithin Judaism, the Biblical Judah (in Hebrew: Yehuda) is the original name of the Tribe of Judah - traditionally symbolized by a lion. In Genesis, the patriarch Jacob ("Israel") refers to his son Judah as a Gur Aryeh גּוּר אַרְיֵה יְהוּדָה , a "Young Lion" (Genesis 49:9) when blessing him [1]. In Jewish naming tradition the Hebrew name and the substitute name are often combined as a pair, as in this case.
