How can I make sure I don't end up an Ita Lolita?

I have heard a lot about Ita Lolitas whilst doing my many Lolita based tours of the internet, and I'm terrified of looking like one! Although, I live in the UK, and I have only ever seen asian Lolitas around here once, and a crappy american one once too, I myself am english.
I have heard that black and white dresses are Ita, however I think they are the cutest ones, I myself am a Gothic Lolita, and think the maid inspired dresses are nice, I was also told to stay away from Mary Jane shoes, and the square headdresses, what do you think?

I like it because it's old style Lolita, but I'm worried I might look an Ita? Help!

To avoid being an ita lolita, try not buying things that say they are for cosplay. An ita lolita has clothes that look like a costume, that are shiny and look cheaply made. If you want, you can try making your own dresses. (You don't have to actually make them... just buy different articles of clothing that look lolita and you can make your own outfit.) If you don't want to do that, I suppose you could just buy the dresses, but I can't guarantee you won't look like an ita.

In my opinion, black and white dresses do look a bit ita. But

Anyway,
I think your dress actually looks quite nice. Here's a tip... Feel the fabric of the dress and accessories. If it feels scratchy like a costume, it's a no go. Make sure everything feels like real clothes that you would wear.
And when you wear lolita clothes, try not to go over the top and look like an anime character! That's what makes someone an ita lolita. Whenever they look like they are cosplaying, it really hurts the eyes.
To look genuine, you should also try to add in your own personal touch.
